Out of every day in the year, one stands above all the rest for Muslims. It is the Day of Arafah. This is the day when Allah forgives more people than on any other day, when heartfelt dua is answered, and when a small act of giving can outweigh a mountain of good done on an ordinary day. If you have ever wished for your worship and your charity to count for the most, this is the day to understand and to prepare for.
The Day of Arafah falls on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, the day before Eid al-Adha. It is the heart of the Hajj pilgrimage and one of the most blessed days of the year for every Muslim, pilgrim or not. If you are not on Hajj, the three best things to do are simple: fast, make plenty of dua, and give charity. Good deeds in these days carry the greatest reward, and at Al Firdous our 100% donation policy means every penny you give reaches the people who need it.
The Day of Arafah is the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic year. It is the central day of Hajj, when millions of pilgrims gather on the plain of Arafah near Makkah and stand from midday until sunset in prayer and humble dua. This standing, called the Wuquf, is the very heart of the pilgrimage. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that Hajj is Arafah, three short words that show just how much this single day carries.
But the blessing of this day is not only for pilgrims. For every Muslim, wherever they are in the world, the Day of Arafah is one of the greatest days of the whole year. It was on this day that Allah perfected the religion of Islam, as mentioned in the Quran (Surah al-Maidah, 5:3). It was also the day of the Prophet’s farewell sermon during his final Hajj.
“There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah.”
The Day of Arafah 2026 was Tuesday 26 May 2026, the 9th of Dhul Hijjah 1447. It always lands the day before Eid al-Adha, which fell on 27 May 2026. Because the Islamic calendar follows the moon, the date moves around ten to eleven days earlier each year. The next Day of Arafah is expected around 15 May 2027, although the final date is always confirmed by the sighting of the moon.
Like every Islamic day, it begins at sunset on the evening before and ends at sunset on the 9th. For those fasting, the fast runs from dawn to sunset. The most powerful time for dua is the few hours between the Dhuhr prayer and sunset.
Good deeds done on blessed days are worth far more than the same deeds done on ordinary days. This is a settled idea in Islam. The Day of Arafah sits at the peak of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, which the Prophet described as the best days of this world. He said that no good deeds are more loved by Allah than those done in these ten days, and that even striving in the path of Allah does not match them, unless a person gives their life and wealth and returns with nothing.
On this day Allah draws near to His servants, forgives freely, and answers prayers. People who fast, pray, repent, and give on Arafah are placing their good deeds in the richest soil the whole year offers.
“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”
For anyone not performing Hajj, fasting on the Day of Arafah is one of the most rewarding acts of the entire year. The Prophet was asked about it and said that this fast wipes away the sins of the year that has passed and the year that is coming. Two full years of minor sins cleared by a single day of fasting.
Pilgrims at Arafah do not usually fast, because they are travelling and the day is already demanding for them. Their focus is dua and worship. For everyone else, fasting Arafah and giving charity before sunset on the same day is a beautiful pairing. You feel a little hunger for the sake of Allah while you send food and relief to people who feel that hunger every day.
“Fasting the Day of Arafah wipes away the sins of the year before and the year after.”
A quick reminder for the Day of Arafah.
The Prophet said the best dua is the dua of the Day of Arafah, and the best words he and the prophets before him said are the words below. Repeat them often, and then pour your heart out to Allah in your own words and your own language. Ask for yourself, your family, and the whole Muslim ummah.
None has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone, with no partner. His is the kingdom, His is all praise, and He has power over all things.
“The best of supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah.”
Since every good deed is multiplied on this day, charity given on Arafah carries a reward that an ordinary day simply cannot match. Yet many Muslims let the day pass without giving anything, only because they did not realise what they were sitting beside. A small gift, given with a sincere heart and a clear intention, can weigh more than a large gift given out of habit on a normal day.
When you give through Al Firdous, your Sadaqah reaches families living in the hardest conditions on earth. Because of our 100% donation policy, the full amount you give goes to them, not to running costs.
“Charity wipes away sin as water puts out fire.”
There is no fixed amount for charity on this day. What matters is that you give something for the sake of Allah and that it truly reaches the people who need it. Here are simple ways your gift can make a difference.
Give a village safe water to drink, cook, and stay healthy.
Feed a struggling family with a parcel that lasts for weeks.
Support a child with food, clothing, and care, month after month.
Protect a family from the cold, heat, and rain with safe shelter.
Keep a child learning and give them a real chance in life.
Leave a gift that keeps giving reward long after Arafah ends.
You can also use this blessed day to give your Zakat if it is due. Many Muslims time their Zakat for the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah for the extra reward. Not sure how much you owe? Work it out in minutes with our free Zakat calculator.

The Day of Arafah is a moving day to give in the name of someone who has passed away. When the doors of mercy are wide open and dua carries the most weight, this is the day you want your prayer to rise. Charity given for a parent, a child, or a friend who has died reaches them and brings them ongoing reward. For many families, Arafah becomes a yearly habit of remembrance. They fast, they pray, they give, and they make dua for the ones they miss. It turns grief into worship.
The biggest reason people miss the blessing of a sacred day is that they did not plan for it. The day comes, life gets busy, and the intention to give never becomes an action. Keep it simple with these steps.
